United States v. Sandoval

Felipe Sandoval (defendant) was indicted under federal law for introducing alcohol onto Pueblo Indian land in New Mexico, but the district court dismissed the indictment, holding the federal government lacked jurisdiction over Pueblo land and that federal enforcement would improperly conflict with New Mexico's state police powers. The government appealed, noting New Mexico had agreed upon statehood that Pueblo land would remain subject to federal Indian law, and the Supreme Court granted certiorari.
