Union National Bank v. Lamb
United States Supreme Court
337 U.S. 38 (1949)
Union National Bank (plaintiff) obtained a 1927 Colorado judgment against Lamb (defendant) and validly revived it in 1945 under Colorado's own revival rules by serving Lamb in Missouri, then sued in Missouri to enforce the revived judgment; Lamb argued Missouri's 10-year statute of limitations on judgments barred enforcement since revival came more than ten years after the original 1927 judgment, and the Missouri courts agreed, finding the Full Faith and Credit Clause did not require recognizing Colorado's more generous revival period.
Whether the Full Faith and Credit Clause requires a forum state to recognize a judgment entered by a foreign jurisdiction, even if that judgment could not have been obtained under the forum state's own laws.
