Tafel v. State

County commissioner Tafel (defendant) carried a concealed handgun to commissioners court meetings despite a posted sign and the sheriff's warning about a state statute barring such carrying, and Tafel even acknowledged the prohibition in a letter to the sheriff; a county judge later gave Tafel a separate letter purporting to permit him to carry the gun, which was never filed with the court, and Tafel was convicted for violating the statute.
