State v. Jensen
Idaho Court of Appeals
46 P.3d 536 (2002)
After her husband left her for his new girlfriend, Vicki Jensen (defendant), a registered nurse, decided to kill the girlfriend. She used her medical training to plan a lethal injection of insulin and methamphetamine, paid two accomplices, bought disguises, and rehearsed the plan. Jensen and her accomplices broke into the girlfriend's apartment, injected her, and waited an hour to watch her suffer before leaving her alone with her three-year-old daughter. Jensen also stalked her husband afterward and threatened that if she couldn't have him, no one would. She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received a life sentence, then appealed the sentence as excessive.
Whether a sentence of confinement is reasonable when it appears necessary at sentencing to protect society and to serve deterrence, rehabilitation, or retribution.
