Shamrock Hilton Hotel v. Caranas

Mrs. Caranas (plaintiff), a guest at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel (defendant), accidentally left her purse — containing over $13,000 in jewelry — at the hotel restaurant; a busboy who found it followed hotel protocol by giving it to the restaurant cashier, who mistakenly delivered it to someone other than the Caranas when that person came to claim it.
