In re Marriage of Francis

Before Mr. Francis (plaintiff) began medical school, he proposed to Ms. Francis (defendant). While he attended school, she ran a day care from their home and set aside her own career to support him. After six years of marriage, Mr. Francis filed for divorce. The trial court awarded Ms. Francis $100,000, expressly accounting for the future earning capacity his medical degree would give him. Mr. Francis sought review from the Iowa Supreme Court.
