Claire Conroy, incompetent and requiring naso-gastric tube feeding to survive, had her guardian nephew seek court permission to remove the tube, which the trial court granted; a guardian ad litem appealed, and though Conroy died during the litigation, the superior court reached the merits and held a guardian could not withhold nourishment absent brain death, permanent vegetative state, or imminent death, prompting the guardian's further appeal.
