Grouse v. Group Health Plan, Inc.

Supreme Court of Minnesota

306 N.W.2d 114 (1981)

Relevant factsFree

Grouse (plaintiff), a pharmacist at Richter Drug, was offered a new position by Group Health Plan (defendant) after an interview. Group Health knew Grouse would need to give notice at Richter to accept, and Grouse promptly resigned from Richter and turned down another job offer in reliance on Group Health's offer. When Group Health's reference check turned up unfavorable information, it hired someone else instead, and Grouse - now without either job - sued for lost wages. The trial court dismissed for failure to state a claim, and Grouse appealed.
