Relevant factsFree
After the jury convicted several defendants of murder, assault, and robbery following nine days of deliberation, one juror, Cappin, testified post-trial that a jury attendant had told her she wanted the jury to hurry up so she could go home; the attendant denied this, and the judge, finding both witnesses credible in isolation, nonetheless discounted Cappin's testimony based on his personal knowledge that the attendant was grateful for her job, denying a new trial. The defendants appealed.
