Fletcher v. Peck
United States Supreme Court
10 U.S. 87 (1810)
Relevant factsFree
In 1795, a bribed majority of the Georgia legislature conveyed roughly 35 million acres of state land to private companies at a bargain price, and much of that land was subsequently resold to investors before the legislature rescinded the grant in 1796. A lawsuit over warranty of title arose to determine whether the 1796 rescission could unwind the rights of a purchaser who bought land without notice of the original fraud, and the case reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
IssueFree
