Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States

The Alien Contract Labor Act barred corporations from contracting with aliens abroad to perform labor or service in the United States. The Church of the Holy Trinity (defendant), a New York corporation, contracted with an English clergyman, Reverend Warren, to relocate and serve as its pastor. The United States (plaintiff) sued the church for violating the Act, and the trial court ruled for the government; the church appealed.
