The Certain Expenses Case

Under the 1950 Uniting for Peace Resolution, the U.N. General Assembly established the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), staffed by troops from member countries, to oversee a ceasefire between Israel, Great Britain, and France in Egypt. Some member countries viewed the UNEF as violating the U.N. Charter and refused to pay their share of its costs, prompting the General Assembly to request an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on whether the UNEF's expenses were lawful.
