Under the 1950 Uniting for Peace Resolution, the U.N. General Assembly established the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), staffed by troops from member countries, to oversee a ceasefire between Israel, Great Britain, and France in Egypt. Some member countries viewed the UNEF as violating the U.N.
