Aflalo v. Aflalo

Sondra and Henry Aflalo (parties), both Orthodox Jews, married under a "ketubah," a religious contract binding them to Jewish law, under which only the husband can consent to a "get" (religious divorce). Sondra wanted a divorce, but Henry refused to consent while seeking reconciliation through a rabbinical tribunal (the Beth Din), saying he would give the get if the Beth Din recommended it — not to gain leverage. Sondra asked the civil court to order Henry to consent to the get.
