Bond v. A.H. Belo Corp.

Becky Bond (plaintiff) lent a writer for The Dallas Morning News (defendant) family photographs, birth records, and other important documents for a story. The writer lost them. The parties stipulated that the documents' actual value was $2,500 but that their sentimental value was far greater. Bond sought the sentimental value; the trial court awarded only the $2,500 actual value, and she appealed.

Whether damages for the sentimental value of personal property are recoverable where the primary value of the property is sentimental.
